Calanthe Art Cafe

Jonker Street in Melaka is famous for its quirky artsy stores, bustling night street-food market and cute instagrammable cafes. Tucked away in a small street, just off the Jonker Street you can find one of the best cafe’s I’ve discovered in Melaka – Calanthe Art Cafe.

I can’t describe enough how attentive and caring the staff were! For me, great customer service is that one special touch to ensuring that overall perfect cafe experience.

How to Get There

Located on Jalan Hang Kasturi, you can find the exact location linked to Google Maps.

If you’re staying away from the old town, consider taking a Grab. Grab is a smartphone-based transport booking platform. Download your free Grab App to take advantage of convenient and budget-friendly car service.

The Ambiance

Gorgeous vintage interior, decorated with antiques giving it a very unique artistic touch. There are four main seating halls, each with a different theme. I went for the quiet, chic spot to grab lunch and work on my next blogpost.

I really enjoyed the peacefulness, even when the cafe was fully packed with customers. Calm, 20s-30s music was a great fit for the environment.

The Menu

Calanthe Art Cafe offers a wide variety of local and western dishes. The menu is pretty straight forward, specialising in traditional noodle or rice dishes. Especially a local Laksa which comes in various choices between a classic or infused by another cuisine.

Laksa is a spicy noodle soup made of yellow noodles or rice vermicelli served in spicy rich coconut milk or sour asam. Laksa is commonly found in Malaysia. Try Calantha Laksa for their signature recipe (RM 13.80).

Main course prices range from RM 12 – RM 23

For RM 14 you can try one of the 13 States ice blended coffees. Calanthe Art Cafe is the only cafe to serve all Malaysia’s 13 States Coffees which are locally brewed. Other drinks in a variety of prices are also available.

The only things I wish they would change is the use of plastic straws! Hopefully that’s something new coming Calanthe Art Cafe’s way in a very near future.
